This course is presented by OLLI at Widener University
This course will explore the many causes of the Civil War, as well as the major events of the first year of the conflict. Students will learn that, besides slavery, there were economic, cultural and political factors that helped to cause the war. Students will then study the first year of the war, when both sides initially dreamed of a quick, glorious victory but ultimately realized that the war would be long, tragic and bloody.
