A High Holiday Still Full of Sweetness

Although we are not able to do celebrate with you in person this year, we still wanted to extend a “l’shanah tovah” to you & your loved ones

Photos above show our community, ages 2 to 102, celebrating the High Holidays last year (5780)

The High Holidays have always been lively at KleinLife. Over 300 seniors at our four centers would celebrate Rosh Hashanah at luncheons with their friends. Over 100 children would repeat prayers, phrases, and sing songs in honor of the new year as part of our Sunday School program. Thousands of community members would fill our theater for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services.

Since the onset of the pandemic, we have hoped that our doors would be open to usher in 5781 with a new sense of “tikkun olam” (repairing the world) and togetherness. Although we are not able to do celebrate with you in person this year, we still wanted to extend a “l’shanah tovah” to you and your loved ones.

Seniors have been invited to take part in our holiday festivities both virtually and with social distancing in mind. The kick-off event will be a virtual holiday reflection led by Cantor Larisa Averbakh, who will incorporate both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in her program. We are also organizing a drive-by for seniors so they can pick up a special “sweet” new year gift, containing a packaged apple with honey from our staff members. We know that Yom Kippur can be a more somber time for an isolated senior living alone, so we are also offering the annual yizkor program virtually where participants can either access our program through Zoom or over the phone.

Our community has also been invited to live stream holiday services from Beth Israel, which we will have links to on our website calendar.

Finally, we have partnered with the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia in sharing their full list of local High Holiday offerings to ensure that everybody in our community can still celebrate no matter where they are.

We wish you a good and sweet new year!
